Before We Had Words

A Free Two Hour Expressive Arts and Brainspotting Experiential Workshop

Some of our earliest experiences happened before we had words to understand what was happening to us. Others happened when we had language, but not yet the capacity, safety or support to make sense of what we were living through.

The experience may never have become a story that could be told. Yet we know the body still remembers.

This is one of the reasons I bring Expressive Arts into therapeutic practice.

An image, a mark, a colour or the movement of the hand can take us into experiences that words may never have reached. Something can begin to take shape on the page before we understand what it is. We can stay with it, become curious about it and notice what begins to move.
